How we grade

One heart, five states. The score is computed from the inspection checklist by the rule below, so five hearts means the same thing on every listing.

The rubric, in order

The first rule that applies decides the score, so the list runs from most serious to least.

Parts
Any functional category marked as a fail caps the unit at one heart and forces the parts label.

Fair
A functional category that passes with a note caps the unit at two hearts.

Fair
Two or more cosmetic issues cap the unit at two hearts.

Good
A replaced part that carries a note caps the unit at three hearts. A part replaced cleanly does not reduce the score.

Good
One cosmetic category marked as a fail — visible marks — caps the unit at three hearts.
6
Excellent
A single cosmetic note caps the unit at four hearts.
7
Pristine
Every functional category passes and no cosmetic note is recorded: five hearts.

Eight functional categories and two cosmetic. A console with no battery or no built-in screen is not asked about those.

A technician can lower a grade and must write down why. The reason goes into the audit log. Nobody can raise one, including us.
